setting up 1st network question
hi,
i had a general question about networking, currently about to set up my 1st network at home to share internet connection. i've bought a wireless linksys router and wireless pci card also linksys. this is the setup: the cable connection is in my parent's room, the wireless router will be there, along with my parent's pc. i'm planning to connect that pc to the router with a cable connection and the router to the modem there, as i do not have a cable line in my room. my room pc will be using the wirelss pci card. my question was, if my parent's pc will have the router, and i need to use the internet, do i need to keep their pc on while i'm surfing in my room? as their pc will connect to the router with a wire, or can i just turn the modem and router on and leave their pc off. thank you. |

Their computer can be off. Just leave the cable modem and router powered on all the time.

Yep that's correct, so you have a setup like this:
wall jack | modem | router | parents PC Keep in mind you may have to enable the wireless part of the router in the router's control panel (refer to the documentation that came along)
