File sharing two XP machines

Guys,

Just messing with my machines I have run into a little problem. I have a desktop that is wired directly to my Netgear WG614 router. The desktop has an HP deskjet 932C attached which I wanted to be able to use wirelessly with my dell laptop. I hate having to get up and turn on my main rig just to print something out.

Here is what I have done.

1. Put both machines in the same workgroup, and enabled file and print sharing in the network properties.
2. Shared the printer on my desktop using the wizard so that my firewall could be configured appropriatley or at least according to windows.
3. Rebooted both machines

Here is what I could do:
1. I turned on the laptop and and added the printer through My network places, and was able to print. Cool!
2. using my laptop I can enter My network places, I can see my desktop and open its shared folder.

What I can't do:
1. When I use the desktop, and open My network places I can see my laptop. The thing is that I get prompted for a password in order to browse the shared documents folder.

So the lapy can see the desktops shared folders, but the desktop is not allowed to view the lapy. Do you guys think this has to do with the lapy being wireless or that I never ran the lapy through the network wizard?

Utilmatley I accomplished my goal of printing through the wireless network, but this little issue is now getting to me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Think you hit the nail on the head there sir Run the Home Networking Wizard on the desktop and run it on the laptop with your deskops XP installation CD. That should sort it out.....you might also check the firewall settings on the laptop, make sure that the exception for file and printer sharing is checke
