Speed tests

My connection is claimed to be 10 MB/s.
when i test the speed through here i get the following result:
Your current bandwidth reading is:
910.00kbps
which means you can download at 113.75 KB/sec. from our servers.
when i test through my isp website i get:
Your current speed is 6.702 Mbps
Details :
File Size : 2076956 bytes
Elapsed Time : 2.421 seconds

What is going on?
Does the fact that i have emule running (up:13 kb/s, down:17.8 kb/s at time of tests) have anything to do with it?

the first speed, just realtes to the server that was doing the test. It could upload to you at 113kb/s

the second test would be more accurate, but remember that not all sites can upload to you at that speed.

having emule running will slow the connetion, and more that the reported emule upload and down speeds.

don't forget that upload/download speeds are only as fast as the slowest transport line in the connection.

IE:

Your uplink: 10mb/s
your Service provider's uplink 90mb/s
target server's SP uplink 90mb/s
target server's uplink 3mb/s

the maximum speed will be 3mb/s (nominally)...congestion/bandwidth contention/server performance all will degrade your connection speed....

Also, don't forget raw line speed is in bits per second, and downloading a file is bytes per second minus the overhead for data transmission.. Also your raw line speed is really from your house to the ISP but going out from there you are subject to how fast the server you are downloading from can give U at the time..

thanks.
I feel that my superfast browsing has become somewhat slow. i'm not sure if it's my security settings or not.
many icons/pics remain as a generic icon for a while and then either slowly update or just remain that way.
i can still download files at ultra fast speeds so i don't really know what is happening.
