Look and see if there is something installed on the PC (HotBar?) that can be uninstalled.

sometimes the most effective way to clean a system riddled with adware and spyware is to back-up all of your data, format your hdd and reinstall windows.

are you using a firewall and antivirus?
i also suggest using spywareblaster.
always keep your security software up to date.
start using firefox instead of ie.

There is a Microsoft registry cleaner that will wipe out all registries that are Not related to windows....You can opt for which ones you want deleted....

If you are getting pop-ups then you have tracking cookies, spyware or various other programs running sending info.... you need to find and delete them....you can get these just by browsing some sites...

I run the XP firewall and AVG and Adaware and Spybot usually do a Monthly scan....I have no pop-ups and have been surfing hard 3 years...so....
