Exclamation Problem with V.High Latency, Visual Route Results included..

Hi everyone, im new to the forum and a frustrated new member
i am... I Hope i can find salvation here!!
First of all the setting (ooooo...) :
Im sharing an ADSL connection (2 Mbps) on a LAN, we're
connected to an Alcatel Speedtouch DSL modem (400 something,
dunno the Exact model) And there's a switch (you know, the
lil box dividing cables) between me and the Modem. There's
two of us on this switch, the rest varies from 2-10 Users ,
but as the bandwidth is pretty high, we rarely take any
performance hit.
Now this problem pops up for the second time... INCREDIBLY
high latency... im talking ping times of over 600ms ...
Packet Loss corrupting Zip files and the like, and Insanely
long load times for Graphics and Flash content on websites...
I Mean, the text content usually displays almost instantly..
Hell even Pics used to load in a flash... Now i cant geta
lousy 30kb pic to load in reasonable time...
What i did was this, First i raised hell with my network
administrator.. Told him how much of a craphead (??) he is
and kept asking alot of technical questions which, even I,
didnt know anything about..(Except how to ask it!) And
basically tried to see if something's wrong.. i doubt
anything But the Modem is a Big problem... I Ran VisualRoute
2005 and traced to Yahoo, google, and Gamespot... Im
attaching the results here (BTW im in Egypt, Alexandria, but
the prog estimates the ISP to be in cairo , i think its
right)
Now one thing i've noticed is the VERY big ms jump between
nodes 3 & 4 ... and also nodes 6 & 7 ( 184 to 757 !!!!! )
... The first jump i can understand , but the second smells
so fishy it stinks... Can Visual Route be inaccurate (
considering the already suspicious networking environment im
in ) ? Or does that "Flagtel" server in england really suck
as much as its showing here?
You can see the jump also appears when pinging Google (And
almost as dramatic) and a lil lower with Gamespot...
Please Take a look at the results and tell me what you
think.. I Kinda dont fully understand where the problem is
coming from...

Thanks !

Your problem is between the 2 nodes where the ms readings take the big jump. Nothing you can do about it.
