help setting up linksys wireless network

hi,
i'm trying to set up my linksys wireless network, 1st time setting up a network. There is a point during the setup where after plugging everything in the program tries to check everything, just before it's suppose to ask to set up the a & g network, i have an a & g router. but it keeps telling me it can't locate it, and to double check the wiring, which i did and it looks fine. each step before this it was fine with, it was detecting everything, even the portion where it says to check the lights on the router was good, power, internet and the numbered network was good, i even tried moving it to another one, again didn't complete setup.
Does the pc need to be set up on a domain 1st? I'm running a win2000 machine, and i know it's not on a domain, i checked my computer properties, and it's setup on a workgroup only, not domain. during router set up it should a blank domain, do i need to do that 1st?

thank you.

Check to see if your router is giving out addresses via DHCP and then see if your computer is pulling one from the router or if it has a static on assigned
