Strange file sharing problem...
Hi there,
I have two computers which share an internet connection perfectly. I want to start file and printer sharing between them. My computer runs Windows XP Home SP1 and is connected directly to a Belkin Wireless Router. My dads runs Windows Xp Pro SP1 and is coonected via a wireless USB Network adapter. I ran the Network Wizard through windows on both computers, selecting "this computer connects through a residential gateway" for both computers. Now, my dads pc can access my PC fine but i can't access his. I get an error saying, "\\***** is not accesible. You might not have permission to access this network blah blah blah.... The network path was not found" I have tried pinging his computer but i can't get through. I have turned off all software and hardware firewalls and encryption keys but still no luck. I have found that doing IPCONFIG/ALL on MY computer shows that netBIOS over TCP/IP is disabled but i have enabled it on both computers throuigh the network properties. I have read through many similar posts, i have even tried that registry fix but that didn't work. So i am at a loss. I think the problem is on my dads as his computer seems to be blocking my attempts get through to his PC. Can anyone help me? Thanks Last edited by old_mcgroin; 09-12-2005 at 10:02 AM. |

Can you ping either computer? If not, then the firewall is better being disabled entirely.

My computer can be pinged from my computer and my dads. I can't ping my dads computer from my computer but I can ping myself. I have disabled all security measures on both PC's, doubled checked in msconfig to make sure nothing is running on startup.
If i can't ping my dads is it a problem on my computer or on my dads? I thought it might be the encryption on the wireless adapter but i've turned that off and i still can't get through. I've editted settings on the router such as port forwarding and DMZ but still i can't get through.

Run the wizard again, this time select "this computer connects directly to the Internet".

Both. Override the warnings when you enable filesharing.
