Question |CABLE| Internet connection keeps dropping out?

My internet connection keeps dropping out on me, I am continually having to either go to:

Start -> Network Connections -> Local Area Connection 2 (My NIC) -> Status -> Repair

Start -> Run -> cmd (dialog) -> ipconfig /release & ipconfig /renew.

Manually reset the modem by unplugging/re-plugging it in

Whichever I use only temporarily seems to solve the problem. First and foremost could there be something on my computer, a virus for example, that is resetting/dropping my connection? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Tell me when this happens, does your cable connection light on your modem ever go out?

Do you also have a router?

Any chance you are using any type of Bit torrent program when this happens?

Get the cable provider to check the signal strength at your filter. They can crank up signal strength as some cable modems are fussy about low signal strength. Of course this is but one of several things to investigate.

Modem: Sometimes the lights reset and it has to resync, but this isn't always the case.

Router: No, sorry should have mentioned in original post.

BT: No.

They have already been out here and said the signal is strong, they said I'm 'feeding directly off the tap' and that the other users in my apartment complex are being split off another.

So there isn't a possibility some script is running on my maching telling my modem to reset or is corrupting/flushing out my TCP/IP info?

Thanks for all the help thus far.

Well its been up for all of today (that I've been on it at least) without incident, but yesterday it wasn't up for more then a couple minutes before I had to reset something.
