splat Wireless internet (not router) latency problem

Ok I run 2 computers on a network everywhere 4port hardwire router. I have wireless internet service to my ISP. Both computers run ZoneAlarm.

The problem.
I'm getting horrible ping times to most any online game. My bandwidth is excellent, but my latency is downright horrid. The same thing with websites, It takes about 3 seconds to make a connection with the website but once it does the website loads instantly. I've tried turning off zonealarm and unhooking the router both seperately and at the same time. I'm at a loss as to what i can do to fix it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Very unhappy about this so-called "highspeed" internet.

Have you called your ISP and see what they can do?

I also have wireless internet, I and everyone I know who has it has the same problem with some web pages taking a while to load, it kinda varies day by day. But my games are fine, call of duty I get pings in the 60's and low 70'. I have a 3mbs/down, ~500kbs/up connection. The problem with wireless is all of the repeaters and stuff it has to go through. My isp is based about 40miles away, thats along way for a wireless signal to go, and it causes alot of problems when theres a storm or something.

There is a high packet loss with wireless internet like you have (and I have the same). This means a lot of data has to be resent, which results in high latency when playing online and possibly slow connections (my ping is usually 100 - 120 when playing BF2). There are no repeaters here, just one transmitter. I'm located about 4 miles away...

Don, your transmitter probably connects to the repeater with the strongest signal, then travels on land lines from there to your ISP. So it really doesn't travel that far over the air.

how fast is your connection supposed to be? i.e. 1.5mbs/down, 300kbs/up
