This is completely baffling me.
I have a Netgear MR814 Wireless 802.11b router. It has been working fairly well for the past two years, connecting about four systems, most of which were on wireless mode. A few days ago, however, the wireless stopped working. The wired system works fine - but the desktop and laptop that's on wireless is not detecting any signal. I have tried the wireless on both my Toshiba WinXP SP2 laptop with Cisco Wireless PCMCIA NIC and the HP Win98SE desktop with D-Link wireless PCI NIC. The MODEM is a Cisco 675 with ADSL. Also related to this problem may be a periodical internet hiccup - where internet signal for all systems (wired and wireless) stops working for about a minute. Would you think that the sheer fact that the just the wireless is not working is good enough to conclude that the router is faltering? Would it be a good time to replace the router? Thanks. kram

What troubleshooting/repair techniques have you tried? Power cycling would be the first option. If that doesn't restore it, try a hard reset with the small reset button. That will return it to factory defaults and you'll have to reconfigure the network. If you opt for a new router, go with a Linksys or D-Link 54G. I've lost all faith in Netgear products. My own wired Netgear router has been acting up of late as is close to being retired in favor of a Linksys.

I did forget to mention I do have WEP (128-bit) enabled. If I end up upgrading, I will likely go Linksys. I appreciate your help PR. Thanks. kram |

UPDATE (since I am no longer able to edit)
I did hard reset the router. Initially, it still did not work since the wireless systems could still not see the router. However, after about two hours, amazingly, it worked. I am still not sure whether to call this a ISP Problem, MODEM Problem, or a Wireless Router Problem - probably router problem, but with the results produced, I'm unsure. Any suggestions? Thanks. kram |

same problem
Any news on what happened that made the wireless work again? I'm experiancing the same problem. What is power cycling? is that only relevant if you are using multiple computers?
gracias edit: I am using a MR814 v3 if that helps at all. |

Power cycling is turning off the power, waiting a bit, and turning it back on. Modems and routers should be periodically power cycled, and it's the first thing you should do when you are having issues. It's just like rebooting a computer.

Okay, I've done both the soft and hard resets. I still don't have any wireless. Anyone have any suggestions? It has to be my router right? The wireless light is on, I can't see how my computer would have a hard time reading the signal.
