First time trying to set up a lil p-t-p network all on my own. PC to laptop. I seem to be set up OK on the PC, but the laptop won't even see itself in Network Neighbourhood, so I haven't got as far as testing the connection! It's an old Toshiba running W95, but device manager says the hardware is OK and I've tried every combination of setting in the Network section of Control Panel....Client for MS networks, got all the protocols in, password is OK, no error messages at all, just no icon in N.N.!
Any suggestions? What have I missed? Thanks, Chris. |

Possibly a bad NIC, do you have another you can try?

How are you connecting the computers? if nic to nic, you need a crossover cable.
On the Toshiba laptop, try this: 1. delete all protocols 2. add "only" netbeui 3. make sure sharing client is installed (I'd like to share files & printers) Of course make sure workgroup name is the same on both pcs. HTH

Thanks guys, but I only had the laptop on approval and I've sent it back. Didn't come up to spec in other areas either.
