Read-only, no password drive shares in XP Pro?
I'm trying to tinker with my WinXP Pro system's file sharing to get it the way I want it, but I'm having some difficulty.
I'm okay with sharing entire hard drives, but not as an administrator share; I don't really want a password to share whole drives, but I don't want anything beyond Read access either.
I've tried tinkering with using Simple File Sharing (and without), and found a reg hack to disable admin shares (in which case, I'd just share my drives as "C$", for example, and leave it as Read share permission), but the best I've gotten is my normal shares work without a password (as desired, by using simple file sharing), but the hidden, non-admin drive shares I manually created ask for a username--which it sets as Guest, and then greys out--and password; the Guest account is disabled on my system, so I'm unable to get any access at all this way.
Again, I'm okay with remote hosts being able to see my entire drives (I don't keep any sensitive information on my system that I don't want anyone to see, and it's handy for easier navigation during LAN parties, rather than sharing many individual folders), and sharing them without a password, but I don't want anyone to have full access to my drive shares.
How can I accomplish this?
