Network switch problem?
Hey guys
I built a new PC a few weeks ago and have had it set up on my home network for a week now and everything has been working 100%. My network is set up like this: Cable modem-->Linksys Router--> Linksys switch My old pc connects to the router and my new pc connects to the switch. Tonight I was playing Battlefield 2 and all of the sudden got the "There is a problem with your connection" message. Sometimes the cable internet service goes down so I thought no big deal. Then I went to check the router/cable modem and everything was working properly and had activity. So then I tried to go online on my other desktop (what I am posting from now) and it works fine. I went on my wireless laptop and it works fine too. I even tried my PSP which also works fine. So I reset the cable modem, switch, and router. Got nothing. All other PC's work fine, new one doesn't. Tried unpluging/pluging in cables. Nothing. The new pc shows the network cables as "connected" but can't view any workgroup pc's. I also tried turning firewalls off. Still nothing. One thing that is odd: The activity lights on the switch are completely solid and do not blink. Does this have something to do with it? It's very odd because everything was working fine and all of the sudden it quit. Any ideas? |

Try a different port on that switch. Loosing signal on that PC will have nothing to so with internet or cable modem, what is was telling you was that you lost the connection simply between the PC and the switch port, it could care less about anything beyond that. Could also be that your nic card has gone south in that PC..

Have you tried plugging that computer directly into the router? Have you tried different patch cables?

Yes, I tried to lug it directly into the router with a different cable.
It recognizes that a cable is unplugged and recognizes when it is plugged back in, it just can't connect to the network. I am stumped. |

The router is using DHCP correct? Does the switch have a dynamic or static ip address?

I went into the BIOS, disabled the onbaord nic, booted to windows.
Checked a few things, restarted and went back into BIOS and re-enabled the onboard nic. Restarted, pluged the network cable back in. Works perfectly |
