I set up a wireless network between my desktop and my laptop. With open settings the connection worked fine. I then logged into my router and set up WEP security. I received my keys and then tried to setup security on my laptop. I entered the WEP key provided and now have limited or no connectivity on my laptop. I am using a netgear router. I have tried and retried and am getting irritated. I am also unable to set up file and printer sharing.

Are any and all software firewalls disabled? If you mean you're getting that error after entering a WEP key, try setting the encryption level lower. For instance if you have set it to 128-bit, try bringing it down to 64-bit.
