limited or no connectivity

ok guys i've had my laptop and desktop networked for a couple of weeks with the desktop getting the net through the wireless on my laptop. Then we tried a diferent cable to a different network in my desktop for faster internet but it didn't work.
Since then i've tried hooking the laptop back the desktop but my laptop is no telling me that there's limited or no connectivity, and when i try to repair it, i'm told it can't renew the ip address.
Now as it worked before something must have changed but i have no idea other than to run the network wizard when it comes down to netwroking so please help. can't last much longer playing network games on my lappy.

Are you using a router, or a switch, or internet connection sharing? We need some more details, please. How are you connected to the Internet? Dialup, DSL, cable? Exactly what equipment do you have and how is it interconnected? What operating systems are on the computers?
