Comcast Wireless Network - strange problem
I just had Comcast come out and setup my wireless network. Everything works great except one thing... Im downloading at about 770Kbs a second (thats around 200 more then I was)... now when I try to play Counter Strike: Source... I hardly get any servers and the latency is above 100 on servers that use to be around 15. When I join my ping will be around 95 when it was around 7 (same servers i played before i had them hook up the wireless network).
Whats causing that? Any ideas? |

You will always have higher latency over wireless than you will over wired, especially when the connection is encrypted. Comcast's Linksys wireless router is preset to 128 bit WEP.

Is there a way around that when the other person isnt using their computer, like turning off the wireless router... something... It wont even let me join some games anymore...
Sorry bout the stupid questions... i have no idea about computer related stuff. |

You don't have to turn off the wireless router. Just run a patch cable from the router the computer. Are you using a laptop or a desktop? Either move the computer closer to the wireless router or switch to wired when playing online games. Wired is always faster than wireless.

The problem when I was Wired was one computer could be cnnected to the internet but when I tryed to plug both computers in my computer would always get bumped off for a few seconds... making online gaming miserable and sometmes impossible. So I would just have my computer connected stright into the modem... but now I dont think I can do that... Comcast said that its a modem and router all in one...

Connecting a computer directly into the modem isn't a good idea.
1. Were you using a router before you had Comcast come out? 2. Are the computers desktops or laptops? 3. Are both computers using the wireless connection? 4. Do you have AIM or something so that we can chat in real-time? It's hard to do it through postings like this. I'll be glad to help you with this. Adam |
