Purchase of Switch
I'm looking to purchase 2 switches (100mbps) with at least one port each supporting fiber for our backbone. Does anyone have any suggestions for the budget conscious?
thanks |

For the budget conscious, I like Linksys in general. I just took a quick look at their line and they do have switches with a fiber option. For mission critical stuff, I still stick with 3Com but you will pay through the nose.

Mission critical stuff calls for Cisco....lifetime warranty, software upgradable as new features become available, buy back/tradein program for when technology changes and the best tech support in the industry...

i was looking at linksys and 3com as alternatives to cisco. Currently 30 users moving to 40 in a year. Our current layout (done prior to me getting here) has 2 linksys stackpro hubs stacked. New office will need a switch on either side of the office to which i'll stack a hub each for growth. The switch will also improve performance from our current layout in addition to having the fiber backbone.
Cisco's 2924s have 2 fiber ports but run around $2300 i believe. Linksys and 3com cheaper? i'll take a look at the site. |

the cisco's are solid boxes, if you go with 3com's, buy a spare.
