LEt me start with that I have no prior knowledge to networks, so bare with me. I'm using Netgear for internet, basically my home is connected with some dsl company..downstairs comp is the "base" or server and i use a NIC to connect to the router (downstairs) which i get a 56k speed (doubtfull, its way faster)..what i wanna do is create some sort of a network that both comps can use a MY SHARED FILE or something like that, the downstairs comp has lots of music, and this one doesnt..so is this possible or do i have to buy some cables which i really dont wanna do.
And if its possible do i have to upload the music in this comp to listen to it or can i just access that folder likes it exist in this comp and just play it? The downstairs comp is a Pent 4 2.4 Ghz XP sp2 like 80gigs hdd this one..cant say cuzz im planning on building a comp soon. |

I'm not sure I understand your setup clearly.
normally the broadband connection go to a modem first, then it connects to the router, all the computers should then connect to the router, if done this way you would have a local network that all will connect to the internet at the same time independent of each other and be able to share files and folders with each other. |
