"locked" windows workgroup

Is it possible to lock a workgroup in a way that a user can not get to other computer in the group without changing anything in each computer?

I'm on a friends computer at the college. One of the guys in the dorm made a video for a class and needs it transfered to the other machine in the room so he can put it on a disk. i planned on just using the network and transfering the file but I can't get to the workgroup. As far as I know there is no way to lock the netwrk like this without a server anyway, and a workgroup has no server. They don't need to login to a server, computers or anykind of login at all.

Any ideas?

Easy enough to test - disconnect both computers from the dorm jacks and connect them together with a crossover cable.

I would try that if I had a cable but I don't. I know there isn't any software on the machines doing this because they are personal machines not property of the school.

He ended up using his mp3 player as a jump drive and transfering the file that way but I would still like to figure out why I can't view the workgroup.

The dorm jacks probably go to a managed switch or router or something. That's why I suggested a crossover.

Ok, well if its a switch/router thats the problem then it must be setup this way for a reason. Why would you want to do this? The only harm I can see would be if someone loaded up your shared folder with junk and filled your hard drive.
