D-LINK AirPlus XtremeG+ DI-624+ set up correctly?
Hey, my neighbours bought a D-LINK AirPlus XtremeG+ DI-624+ wireless router and had me set it up. All i did was connect a cable from the cable modem/router, to the first port on the D-LINK AirPlus XtremeG+ DI-624+ (not the internet port as it is not the only router on the network). I then went through the quick setup and set up the encryption. now i was just wondering if i had done everything correctly or if i possibly needed to change any more settings on the wireless router?
Thx |

Why are you trying to use a router as just an access point? You should be using a dedicated access point plugged into the other router.

Could it be a router is cheaper than a access point ?
It is over here and when I last looked for a access point, the saleman tell me to get a router instead. Btw, is there any performance issues using a router as a access point ?

Yeah, snoopy basically answered the question for me.
I was over there today and the same problem keeps on occuring and its useless having to restart the router every time you need it |

To use a wireless router as just an access point, you have to modify its settings before you plug everything in. You have to change the router's internal IP address to one in the master router's subnet but out of its DHCP scope, and you have to turn off its DHCP service.
