xp network password
I have 2 XPH computers networked through a router. They were working when I transferred a large file from one comp to the next. But now when I try to connect to the other comp I get a password box.
These are XP Home. The user on the other comp doesn't have a password neither does the admin of the machine. I've tried admin and blank and all that.....so what is the password it's asking for? From the first machine to the second it doesn't ask for password?? |

Instead of just using Administrator as the login, use: [Computer Name You Are Logging Onto]\Administrator

Do you have file sharing enabled on the Windows Firewall on the problem computer?
You can check in Control Panel under Security Center. |

Do you have any kind of internet security software installed on either machine? If so, disable them.

no all these more obvious things I've taken care of. Perhaps it won't work unless there is a password for the user. Could this be possible?

You may be trying to access a system share and not a user share. System shares have a $ at the end of the share name.

With XP home, simple file sharing is the only alternative so you`d have to be logged on under a username on one machine that exists on the machine you are trying to access.
If for example PC1 is logged in as admin it will connect to PC2. But if PC2 is logged in as joe it won`t connect to PC1 unless joe has a user profile on PC1. Also, make sure the guest account is enabled on both machines. In XP Home or Pro the guest account is an integral part of the network on a workgroup environment. |
