How to make Windows forget user name for a server?

A client machine running Windows XP needs to connect to a server (\\matrix). The server (matrix) is in the same local network.

When I log in to Windows XP (using my own user name) on the client machine and I go to Start > Run, I type \\matrix and a prompt pops up asking for name and password. I type the correct user name and password for the server and the window comes up with the server contents. So far so good. The same thing happens with any other user that logs in. They have no problems connecting to the server from this client machine or from any other client machine.

Now, here's the exception. If I log in to Windows XP using my co-worker's name on the same client machine, when she goes to Start > Run and types \\matrix, instead of a prompt asking for user name and password for the server, she gets an error message saying that she doesn't have permission and it says something about the user name not found.

Now, I've spent several hours trying different things such as making her account Administrator, creating an account with her name to the server, making sure names and passwords match in both ends, etc. However, nothing seems to work. I want Windows to stop trying to connect to the server automatically and ask for user name instead like it does for the rest of the users.

I should note that this only happens in HER computer. If I use another client computer, when she logs in to Windows and then tries to connect to the \\matrix server, the prompt pops up.

What I believe happened was that the first time she tried this, she got the prompt and she put the wrong name/password or something and somehow it got "memorized" in Windows and now it doesn't let go of the wrong credentials and keeps on trying the same user name/password automatically to connect to the remote server \\matrix. I tried cleaning her cookies, temp files, history, rebooting the computer, etc. and Windows insists on not asking for name and password for to connect to the matrix server.

The prompt pops up correctly for users that don't even exist in the server so I don't know why it is only for my co-worker's account that the prompt doesnt show. I am not sure what she did wrong but there must be a way to make Windows prompt for user name for the server.

Let me clarify that this has nothing to do with the Windows login. What I am trying to do is connect to a remote server using the Run command in start menu.

Thanks for any help!

Oh well, I tried the NET USE command from the command prompt window which allows me to enter the correct name and password for the server shared folder. Upon doing this, it overrides the Windows 'obsession' with not asking for name and password for the server. So that has fixed the problem for now. So if anyone else runs into this issue, you can try something like:

NET USE H: \\server\sharedfolder /USER:username

Press Enter and then it will ask for the password. After this, the window to the server shared folder comes up if the correct user name and password is entered. This also creates the H: network drive in the computer.

The only thing is that the network drive connection must be connected all the time. So the H: drive that appears in "My Computer" must be there. Otherwise, it goes back to the same problem again. But I guess this is a good workaround for now.
