I have a router connected home network to a cable modem. I built (2) new computers, 3.2Ghz Intels, which work great except that every 10 to 14 hours communication with the router is lost and I have to reboot the router. When it happensthe browser won't connect to the router and nobody can reach the internet. The home LAN still works fine and my (2) ReplayTV's can still transfer shows between them, which implies the router is still working OK but just won't connect to the internet. I am currently using a wired Netgear router but it works the same with a Linksys I have been trying to solve this problem for 6 months and have come up dry. Any ideas? Geezer

Are you sure it's not a cable modem issue? When you reboot the router, you should also reboot the cable modem.

I haven't tried booting the modem, but it doesn't seem to be part of the problem. The problem only occurs when my new, homebuilt computers are on line. If I take them off and use my old 2.3 Ghz Dell the problem doesn't happen. Geezer

Check the power management settings in Windows XP. It usually is set by default to shut down network adapters to save power after a certain amount of time, which could mean that upon powering them again you have to release/renew addresses.

I have seen this problem time and again being a comp and network tech of 9 years i have found that updating the router bios has fixed these time out problems,,very popular recent problems with the D-link & netgear routers that were a year old before they were even sold at the store,,these routers take onlt so much throughput and timeout even on large file uploads and downloads,,,once you've done that.and you are still experiencing problems check your cable or dsl modem by unplugging it for 30 seconds,if this dont fix the problem i would definitly think about a new router, but for me its been a rarity for replacing the router for time out symptoms.got to the website of the company who built the router they offer new firmware for the routers all the time, patches as such ..i was surprised to see that netgear has such an extensive down load for patching and updating theyre firmware.

the NIC is set to not allow the computer to power it down and the router software is up to date. Problem is the same with a Linksys router so don't think the router is the problem. My new computers are doing something to putthe router in a state where it cannot connect to anybody on the LAN except that the Lan attached hosts can all talk to each other. Geezer
