I can't get one of my computers to see share files with the other. I have a Dell machine that sees the one I just built fine and cand share files but the new one can't share files with the old one or share printers. The new one sees the older PC and can ping it but can not share files or printers with it. I had the same problem on this machine when it was running win98; I recently just stripped it dopwn and did a whole new build and upgraded to XP but I still have the same problem. When I click to see the other workgroup computers they show up on each other but when I click on the Dell machine using the new build PC it prompts for a password and I have no idea why. The Dell machine does not do that when I click on the the new build PC it just shows the shared folders like it is suppose to. This has got me stumped. I followed the tutorial on www.homenethelp.com but that did not help the problem either. I basically got one way sharing and it is really starting to get to me, it just makes no sense both computers are configured the same way as far as I can tell. Please help if you have any ideas.

Have you tried cancelling out of the password request? Do you have M$ Networking enabled on either machine? Have another look on the Dell computer, it's asking for a password before it will let you look at what it's sharing out so it could be that a password request is set on the folder that's been shared from the Dell.
