Well, I play online games daily. And my pings for the servers I play on are never really that bad, maybe 70 for a server in Dallas, and I live in NJ. But then I got World of Warcraft and all of a sudden, my connection to every game I play is horrible. Even the connection to the WoW server I'm playing on. It's horrible. It's like 700, and then when I go to play Counter Strike again, my ping is like 300. How can I correct this??

Perhaps they are counting differently. Times 10 of what the actually ping is; look to see if they give the ping in milisecond or hundredth of a second or what.
I do not know for sure - I am just guessing. Is it just the pings or do you notice lots of lag and what not within the games?

It's always in milliseconds. My pings have randomly skyrocketed for no reason and they won't go down. I also experience a massive amount of lag and it's killing me

I believe WOW installs system monitoring utilities (Spyware) Maybe they are messing you up.

I was thinking that, but I ran a spyware scan and nothing came up. But that is a pretty valid suggestion. Anything I could do to rid myself of this blasphemy?

I don't really think that the Warden is that strong of a candidate for whacking you connection speeds... Its just easy to blame.
I would maybe see if your ISP can trouble shoot it... normally they have the tools and the connections needed to make this very easy for them. |

Let's go back to basics for a minute - have you rebooted your modem and router - and possibly looked for a firmware update for the router? Have you looked for driver updates for your NIC? Have you tried the tweak tests at dslreports.com?

Do you HAVE a router? Let's have some more details, be very specific.

Ok um, yes I have a router, it's a D-Link something or another. Over the course of today I have narrowed it down. WoW was not the problem, though I learned this the hard way by uninstalling it completely and now I can't find my CDs. So that's unfortunate. At any rate, I've learned that every aspect of my internet is fine. I download at normal rates. My internet browses at just the same speeds. The only problem I'm seeing is when I play Counter Strike. I suffer pings 3 times as high as normal, with massive choke and packet loss. This makes my gameplay unbareable.
I'm not sure what it is. I'm going to clean out my pc tomorrow, that might solve SOMETHING. A dust problem at the very least... Anyway, I'm reluctant to contact my ISP because of my problem only being with one game. It's just a little unnerving :/ Well that's about as specific as I can get without completely sounding like I have no idea what I'm talking about. Lol Hope it helps a litle, my clan is suffering my loss

How are your ping rates and packet losses to "normal" websites and stuff? Have you run any of the tweak tests?
