Help Choose AntiVirus Prog.
Would like to see Antivirus Software Reviews based on:
Effectiveness, Ease of Use, Options, Tech Support, Cost etc. to help make informed choice. There r so many antivirus programs its hard to choose. The lists of software in Security Forum do not discuss above criteria. What r the differences between AV, Norton, McFee, Panda, and otheres? Who is using what? Thnx

i use a couple of different programs
i have norton system works on my one computer but i have access to this from the liscense where i work and its decently expensive but my laptop i have avg free edition on it it works pretty well and is fairly easy to use it updates itself and i havent gotten a virus using it it seems to be a pretty effective and thorough program especially for free the drawbacks of the free edition are no tech support and limited schedualling and password protection http://www.grisoft.com/doc/5/lng/us/tpl/tpl01 if you go there and click the free edition you can download it i like norton as well but it can cost a little bit they have very good tech support and they seem to keep updated very well as well one virus program i havent really like is mcafee ive never really found it to be very user friendly and it just never worked to my liking the most important thing about viruses is to be smart as long as you dont click random links in emails and click on every add that pops up you can usually be pretty safe from viruses and the free avg will be fine |

i use to have norton but its a huge resource hogger. and did'nt always clear everything. i also had Mcaffee, witch is another resource hogger but only worked 1/2 the time it was on the internet. Avast is a free AV on web and is considered great, AVG is what i use right now and i also find that great and easy to use. Panda was one of best AV few years ago and havent heard of it since then. NOD32 is the best AV out there right now.

I have had great experiences with AVG and Kaspersky. Both non-instrusive and I never caught anything while using them. Can't comment on tech support, as I never needed it.

what your saying is the AV are good because you never caught anything, it should be the opposite, an AV is good because it catches virus, seems like a paradox to me |

Had the paid version of mcafee, didn't like it because of it's resource hogging tendencies. Using the free version of Avast with good results. Have seen a lot of good feedback about AVG and NOD also.

Difference between AV, Firewall, and Router Security?
DOCTORGONZO, Am I following this discussion right? AV dectect virus and help remove them and Firewalls, Spybot etc. keep viruses and malicous activity out in the first place? So, what I really need is a Firewall as the first line of defense?
How do Routers work as firewall? What kind of Router? Any Firewall Tutorial suggestions? Thanx, everyone. Installed AVG Free version. Like that is doesnt slow down the startup much Seems pretty self explanitory. All except the update Internet or Local Folder Options. Think I choice Internet?? Not sure. What wld be the difference?

Yes, use Internet. Local folder is used on networks when updates are "pushed" from your server or you download the standalone updater.
Firewalls do NOT keep viruses and spyware out. Don't get complacent. Routers act as firewalls because they translate your IP address to a range of private IP's for the workstations connected to it. |
