jet direct problems--how to change IP address
Our school was just assigned new static IP numbers for our server and our 7 HP jet direct boxes. In the Jet Administration software on the server, I can't figure out how to wipe out the old TCP-IP numbers for the jet direct boxes and enter in the new ones. (this has always been done by a third party up until now).
How do I do it? I can't find the documentation that came with the boxes, and I see nothing in the menus. |

hi jepeters,
I'm only familiar with the JetDirect300x external. On that one, unplugging it,then plugging it back in while holding the test button(for 5 seconds) will reset it to factory defaults. It will then show as an unconfigured device in JetAdmin. Here's a link for documentation etc for external ethernet Jet Direct Print Servers. http://www.hp.com/cposupport/nonjsnav/jdexs.html I'm know you can reset them from JetAdmin as well but I only use it at work so can't check it out until Tues. When you say "boxes" do you mean printers or something else. If you mean printers and they are of the 4000 series, you assign IP's from the printers themselves. There is a menu button on it, just scroll through them and you will probably figure it out. If not HP has directions on their site.

The Jet Direct boxes have parallel printer ports on them (some are 3-port, others 1). There is a single ethernet connection to the box, then the parallel cable(s) runs from this box to the printer. It is this box that has to be assigned the IP number, not the printers.
I'm going to try Loopback's instructions. I knew there was a way of resetting to the defaults, but couldn't remember how. |

half-way there
following Loopman's instructions, the boxes are now being seen by the server with their new IP addresses.
But, I can't print to any of them. For instance, while at the server, I tried to print test pages to all 3 printers connected to one box. All of the printouts came out of the same printer. I WAS selecting the 3 different ports invididually on the server when printing the test page, but they all came out of the printer connected to port 1. I also tried installing a 'new' printer on the server to these ports, then adding this 'new' printer from the workstations, but I couldn't get any printouts after this either. Is there another step that needs to be done that I'm not doing? |

hi jepeters,
Are you in a pure Windows environment (no Netware)? Have you deleted the previous port entries? Verify no duplicate MAC addresses on installed JetDirect ports. If you can post more specifics I'll try to help but I'm headed downtown for Canada Day festivities this afternoon. Loopback |
