w32 nsag virus

hi! my desktop icons wont appear when i start my pc. all i got in my display is the wallpaper and the message "explorer.exe application error failed to initialize application (0xc0000022) click ok to terminate"

i use the task manager to run programs. i ran adaware, spybot, and avg. spybot found PSguard and fixed it. avg found w32 nsag but couldnt heal it.

is w32 nsag the reason behind the explorer.exe error? how can i get rid of it?

You not only have the smitfraud trojan but a seemingly corrupted version of it. You can get some info here:

Follow the removal intructions (it's alright if you don't have Kaspersky Anti-Virus) for clearing the corrupted version of wininet.dll.

Then, if you can get on the internet, you can follow the smitfraud removal instruction here:

Method 1 is usually the best to follow.

can i dwnload those files in safe mode? i cant find any icons in my desktop and the MS start key is not functioning. my taskbar is missing too. all i can see is my wallpaper.

thanx! after performing all the scan and cleaning, i think i got rid of the said virus. i noticed that loading my desktop took a while than usual. and one thing, i still got pop ups. am i still infected? here's my HJT log for your perusal:

Could be. It depends on what kind of pop ups you are getting. If you have pop ups when your browser isn't running, you are definatly infected. If you are refering to pop ups while browsing, it might just be the common website pop up ads.

I can't see anything in your HJT log that would cause a problem.

At this point, I'd run all the various scans again. Adaware, Spybot Search & Destroy, Ewido and finish up with an online scan at Trend Micro. Let them fix anything found. Reboot between each scan. If for some reason one of the scans can't clean something, write it down (including location) and post it here.
