Hello,

I am new to networking and want to make a network of 2 pcs. I already have a P4 Computer and soon will be purchasing P3.Can I directly connect both Computers by cable (Both Computers have LAN cards installed in them).

Also I want to know that can I connect both PCs by Telephone Line through Modem.

Which Cables should I use...

You should use a crossover ethernet cable. Plug one end into one PC and the other end into the other PC. You can then run the networking wizard in XP (sorry about the presumption ) and that will sort out all the networking configuration for you.

Well,I already have winxp installed in P4 and I am thinking of installing win98 in my new PC. So it means that If LAN card is installed in both Computers, then both can be directly connected by crossover ethernet cable.

I want to make winxp a server and win98 computer a client.

Please read my first messege again since I edited it.

Regards,

If you have broadband Internet with a router, you can network them that way too. That's the best way to both network them and share an Internet connection.
