Trouble connecting to a wireless router using a wireless pc ethernet card
I have three computers successfully connected to my wireless router already. I tried to connect a 4th, a desktop, using a wireless G Ethernet card but it will not connect to the network. The LED on the card is lit, though it is blinking. The card is picking up the network because I am offered the option of connecting to it. I select the network, entered the WEP key and then hit ‘connect’ thought it does not connect. No error message is given; Windows desktop just offers the option to connect again after my attempt. I went to network connections and the card is show as installed and functioning but it is labeled as disconnected. What am I doing wrong? I would appreciate your help.

Have you installed the drivers of the card and the router? With a wireless router/network card comes usually a cd with drivers and software.

Routers do not require drivers.
What exact version and service pack level is your operating system, and what exact encryption are you using, and are you using Windows or the wireless card utility to try to connect? What brand and model is the router and card? |

Thank you both for you replies. Both the wireless card and router are both Microsoft. The router is a MN-700 wireless base station and the card is a MN-730. I used an installation disk for the card and I downloaded and installed an updated driver. The OS is Windows XP professional that I just installed on a fresh hard drive. I have not had the opportunity to download a service pack. The encryption is the 26 character WEP.

Trouble connecting to a wireless router using a wireless pc ethernet card
Thanks for the advice, updating with SP2 did work. However, I removed the wired ethernet card to make room for a new sound card, an Audigy Soundblaster 4, and I have the same problem as before. The card is picks up the network and I am offered the option of connecting to it. I select the network, entered the WEP key and then hit ‘connect’ and it does not connect. I receive an error message that it is not able to connect. Did removing the wired ethernet card create this problem?
