My computer tells me that there is not an ethernet cable pluged in but there is and the lights on the ethernet port are lit up. It wont let me get a connection. My router even shows that its connected to my computer. Any help?

I checked it, it is enabled. Also the networking icon in the corner of screen has an x through it but the networking lights on the back of my computer and the router lights both show a connection

Right click on the icon that has the X through it, see if "enable" or "repair" is an option. Also check device manager and make sure the network adapter isn't disabled in there.

I would try another cable, i've lost count of the number of new cables that i have used which turn out to be faulty.
