splat All VOiP providers seem lacking

I have pored over many of the VOIP providers these last two days only to walk away more confused then ever. Most claimed to have propriety VOIP devices, just so they can force you to buy there equipment, via a years or two contract. Packet 8 and others are claiming propriety. albeit my unit is plug and dial it excepts all of their protocols. The price are not in-line with the value provided and the technical support are ignorant of the basics of VOIP. The only acceptable one I found does not have E911 in my area. Fifteen dollars is a plenty for this service, and twenty five, hay I have the broadband I have the equipment, all I need is their switch and protocol access. For a few thousand I can do setup my own VOIP service.
