Check network activity
Asking for help... again...
I have been averaging around 1800kbps on speed tests but over the last week or so I am getting anywhere between 300-900. This seemed to have happened after I downloaded and installed Azereus torrent client (now removed). I am on a wireless network but I have tried my USB modem and results are exactly the same. I have also scanned for viruses and spyware (AVG and MS Anti Spyware) but haven't found anything. the reason I am posting in the networking forum is that I wonder if there is a straight forward way of finding out if my network is being used. Ie is my machine spewing out spam all over the internet from some dodgy virus that is hiding itself well. if I can find out that my slow speeds are due to my PC connecting and sending stuff out I can then look into finding and cleaning the malware out. I have tried the Microsoft Portreporter utility but just don't understand the results. I just need something to check and say whether or not there is dodgy network activity whilst I am online. Any thoughts much appreciated. |

Best thing to do is run antimalware scans.

Thanks for the links...
I tried ewido and it only came up with a load of dodgy ad company cookies. I tried the trend micro thing on several occasions and it just wouldn't work. kept stalling on 'transferring data'. On the bottom left of browser it says 'applet hc.applet.implementation notinited'. I'm really beginning to think I've picked up something bad. Any other ways of checking if my internet connection is being used? I'm really stumped as I was getting excellent speeds and now slow as hell... |
