must comp 1 be on for comp 2 to use comp 1 internet?

ok, i've been searching for an answer to this but i'm having no luck. i want to have wireless internet to computer 1, and use a router for computer 2 to use the internet. do i have to have computer 1 turned on for computer 2 to access the net? if so, can comp 1 be in sleep mode? can i pull out the wireless card from the 1st comp and stick it in the 2nd comp if i need the net for just that computer, or would i have to reinstall things each time? thanks, Reuben

Can you please tell us what type of Internet connection you have, along with a list of all hardware? (i.e., modem type, router type, network adapter types)

no, sorry. i'm just looking into wireless net right now but don't have any equipment picked out. i guess i could email the company i'm looking at for wireless net and get some info.

sorry if i broke any of the forum rules, but since my topics were a little different from each other, i separated them. -Reuben

Just get a wireless router and hardwire one PC into it, and use a wireless card on the other PC. Most wireless routers have RJ45 ports on them for this purpose. Assuming you have a high speed connection.
