Ok, I have an idea about the best should be this Netgear Wireless MIMO G RANGEMAX Router With 4-Port Switch. I have experienced using this, and it is great. My house is a double story, with a compound-house lot is around 7000sq ft. So, having a RANGEMAX, will result in higher range-which may actually be a bad thing. Another thing I want is a secure AP. I am not so sure how secure is the RANGEMAX with non-MIMO. So recommend me one. Hopefully not SMC and Prolink, the connection is very weak. But if there is no difference between non MIMO and MIMO in terms of security then I actually don't mind. Only that The RANGEMAX has a steep price.
BTW, for now, 1 wireless laptop, 1 wired pc. Wired pc online 24/7. Wireless laptop has a Centrino. Anything that can support BT and azurues is better Thanks.

You could try the Linksys WRT54GX Router with SRX it is a 4 port router and wireless access point in one and for security it has Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) Firewall, TKIP, AES, 802.1x, WEP, Wireless MAC Filtering. I have read it comes with WPA encryption but I am not sure if it does or not. I have never tried the linksys WRT54GX but I read a lot of reveiws and people seem to like it.
They also have a wireless card that goes with it to if you are intrested it is called LINKSYS WPC54GX and if you use it with the WRT54GX I read that you can be almost a football field away and still get a strong signal. Last edited by Computerguy2; 01-18-2006 at 07:49 PM. |

The GS is a standard non-MIMO router with Speedboost - which will only go faster than 54 with matching Speedboost cards. It's no stronger signal strength wise than a standard G.

If you are accessing the router with a standard b/g Centrino, yes, the GS (and any other brand speedbooster/whatever) is a waste of money over the standard G. The only reason to buy *any* router other than standard G would be for MIMO (pre-N) for extended range. With MIMO, you get the best results with a matching MIMO card, but standard cards DO work better with a MIMO router over a standard G.

yes, I noticed that with the MIMO RANGEMAX, reception does improve with normal centrino laptops. So what do you suggest? Stick to the rangemax?

Well, I hate Netgear - if I were going to use MIMO, I'd use Linksys or *maybe* Belkin. If you *have* a Rangemax and it works, just stick with it.
