Router setups and tutorials,
How to setup WPA encryption
Required Items: WRT54G and wireless adapter card 1. To enter the router setup screen go to the address bar in internet explorer or firefox and type in 192.168.1.1 then a screen will show up asking for the username and password. For the username just leave it blank and for the password type in admin. If you changed the password from admin to something else during installation, type in whatever you changed the password to. 2. Click on the wireless tab 3. Then click on the wireless security tab 4. For the box that says security mode choose WPA Personal 5. For WPA Algorithms choose AES or TKIP 6. For WPA shared key type in a key that is a combination of 8 or 63 letters and numbers. 7. Click Save Settings then after that wait until it gets done saving the settings then close the setup screen. 8. Click on Control Panel then click on network connections 9. Then right click on wireless network connection 10. Then under related tasks click on change advanced settings 11. Under the association tab where it says network authentication choose WPA. 12. Then where it says data encryption what ever you choose in step 5 choose that here. 13. Then click OK then when the next screen comes up click OK again. 14. When you double click on your wireless network it will ask you for a network key type in the key that you chose for WPA shared key. Last edited by Panama Red; 01-21-2006 at 08:14 PM. |

How to change the default IP address to login to the WRT54G router setup screen:
Required Items: WRT54G and notebook adapter 1. To enter the router setup screen go to the address bar in internet explorer or firefox and type in 192.168.1.1 then a screen will show up asking for the username and password. For the username just leave it blank and for the password type in admin. If you changed the password from admin to something else during installation, type in whatever you changed the password to. 2. The Setup tab should be automatically selected if not click setup 3. Then click on the sub tab called basic setup 4. Then scroll down until you see where it says Local IP address 5. Change that to whatever you want it to be 6. Then click on save settings 7. Then the screen will show up that says settings are successful please release/renew IP 8. On the screen where it says please release/renew IP ignore that 9. To make sure the changes you made were successful click on control panel then click on Network Connections. 10. Then right click on Wireless Network Connection then click on status. 11. Then click on support then look at the IP address and default gateway to see if your changes took affect if your changes took affect continue to step 12 if not go back through the steps again. 12. Then reconnect to the internet and open up your web browser and go to the address bar then type in the IP address that you created. Note: The IP address for the WRT54G will be the only thing that will change. Last edited by Panama Red; 01-21-2006 at 08:18 PM. |
