Remote control application not dependant on TCP/IP?
Does anyone know of a good remote control program (something similar to Timbuktu, etc) that is not dependant on the TCP/IP protocol? Something, perhaps, that would use something akin to named pipes, etc.
I want something that I could use to connect to a PC given its network name, like for example, to connect to \\SERVER\, or \\PC-001\ or such. I would ideally like a program that could connect to any machine, but the NT machines are the ones I really want to do remote admin. on, so if the server program was NT-only (as something that would use named pipes would need to be) I'd be OK with that.

I use this one...www.radmin.com
It does use TCP/IP, but you can specify which port it listens on, so if these machines are behind a NAT firewall you could determine which one it connects to that way if connecting from the outside world. Xayd |

VNC will fulfill your stated requirements, is free, and can be installed to run as a service on NT.
http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/index.html Note, however, that once you are authenticated, all traffic between the client and the server is unencrypted. The website discusses some workarounds for this if you need a higher level of security. |
