KVM switch problems
Hey guys. I just recently got a Belkin KVM switch and yesterday when I installed it, everything seemed to work perfectly at first, but today I am having some really annoying problems.
a. Whenver I am using computer A, and then swing over to B, and try using it, I give it a second to "switch" over, so naturally it pauses, but it doesnt come out of it, it just freezes on me now, and I end up having to do a manual power down, and then restart it. b. Ever since I have installed the KVM switch, the display on the secondary monitor is fine, but the display on my main is horrible, unless I have an open window, lets say for example I hit the START button, the menu comes up, and you see a very noticable differnce in the monitor display, it becomes brighter and sharper, but the second you drop the menu, it becomes dull and fuzzy again. It seems like the only thing it could be is the KVM switch, but why? And what can I do to fix it? Its the Belkin OmniView F1D201 - I've tried messing with power settings and checking the device manager to make sure everything is working properly and all Drivers are properly installed. I have tried altering my Display settings. While I wait for some of you to offer your input Im going to unplug the Switch and make certain that the cause of the problem is the KVM switch, hopefully when I come back you guys will have some ideas for me. Thanks everyone. |

Sounds like one of the KVM cables may be bad or not fully plugged in.

That's the reverse KVM for 1 computer, multiple keyboards, mice, and monitors, right?

That is correct glc. I went over to the shop and messed with it a bit, then I decided to unplug everything and make absolutly certain that it was the KVM switch that was causing the problem. When I plugged everything back in, it all seemed to work properly. I think it was 1 of 2 things...
1. Somewhere along the way one of the connectors got loose or maybe plugged in backwards. 2. When I was looking at the instructions, it said that the switch was good with resolutions up to 1920 x 1440 @65Hz with no signal degradation. I did mess with the DPR, and the resolutions before I plugged everything back in, so maybe the resolutions had something to do with it. But to be completly honest with you, Im pretty certain it was just a crossed wire. Which proves once again that, before you do anything else, you should just make sure that everything is plugged in.

You have no clue how you fixed it Nick, but you did... If anyone has any input on WHY it happened, would be glad to hear it...
You also screwed with refresh rates and alot of monitor settings so I doubt it was a lose connection... BUT if it was then it was done when they mounted it... I still have my doubts though... Oh and thanks for posting for me, was in to much of a rush... Got a new phone, Verizon LG8100... NICE!! Last edited by Dephin -PC-; 02-05-2006 at 11:01 AM. |

Just as an update, DON'T BUY THIS KVM SWITCH! I've had nothing but problems with the monitor and keyboard since I installed it. I took it out 2 weeks ago and haven't had a problem since...
