VPN authentication request timeout - HELP!
I can not log into my work from home using VPN. I receive an authentication request timeout - ERROR 930. The message is: authentication requests made to the authentication server have not responded in a timely fashion - ERROR 930. My operating system is XP PROFESSIONAL. I log in using GRAS (global remote access system). I get to the secure id screen and enter my pin and secure id # and then get the error message above. I have turned off all my firewalls. I have delt with my workplace techs to try to resolve this problem for a year now without any luck. I may have to resort to buying an external dial up modem; I currently have a Scientific Atlanta DPC2100 cable modem.
Any ideas or help will be GREATLY appreciated ! Thanks, John |

No, I am not using a router. Someone suggested getting one, but I didn't think that would help. Do you think that would help ?
Thanks for your response and help, John |

I had to fix this issue at work not to long ago. The directory that the logs got written to needed appropriate permissions. After assigning them, it worked fine. That may be the issue here.
What does IT at work say about this? This KB explains what may be happening. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=299684 |

Wow, thanks for the link ! That is REALLY helpful ! The techs at work have had me try a bunch of things - mostly making sure firewalls are shut off, resetting PINS, etc, but couldn't figure out the problem. Most never heard of error 930. I have been doing some reading and new my authentication request was being denied, but I didn't know why. I will now have them change the authentication permissions so this problem can FINALLY be resolved. I hope they know how to do this since so far they have been stumped. Thanks so much for your help and I will post if this is finally resolved. - John (I've gotten more help in 1 day with this forum than in 15 calls to our Remote Support Help Desk !)

If you do get a router, you have to make sure it supports VPN passthrough. That's why I asked.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their help with my problem. It has finally been resolved. It turns out there was a problem with my profile on my home PC. I created a new profile, downloaded the remote access software and finally was able to log in from home. Thanks again everyone,
John |
