peer to peer network
I have been trying to figure this out by myself for a while now, but still couldn't figure this out, so I really hope someone could help me with this problem. I have a desktop that is using Win2000, a laptop using XP, and linksys wireless access point router model BEFW11S ver 3. Both of my computers are hard wired into the router. I am trying to create a peer to peer network, I have set the same workgroup on both computers, with different computer names. For some reasons, from the laptop I can ping out the default gateway but I can't ping the desktop ( keep getting request time out), and when I tried to search for computers from the laptop it couldn't find the desktop either. The weird thing is the desktop could ping the laptop just fine, it recognizes the work group, but that would be just about it.
I hope this makes sense, if you could tell me what I am doing wrong, I would really appreciate it. Thank you. |

Hi nhan
I would install NETBUI on the laptop, cant remember the exact instructions but you'll find them on the web or at Microsoft. The XP CD contains the relevent bits. Doug |

sounds like a software firewall problem, if you have a software firewall running on any PC, disable it, see if that solves your problem.

Agreed more likely a firewall issue.

If you choose you use the Windows Firewall, remember to enable file and (if needed) printersharing on the folders you want to.
