two routers.... seperate networks?!?!

We have a house with 4 of us living in it. Used to be that we had 4 computers on a single Linksys BEFSR41 wired router. Everything worked fine with it, until we decided we also wanted our xbox, a music server computer, and 2 wireless laptops in the house as well!!! So we added a Dell wireless router that also had 4 more wired ports on it. Now we have 3 of our desktops and on the linksys router, then the Dell router is on the 4th port. The music server and one desktop are plugged into the dell, and the two laptops are using the wireless. Follow? So... we go to have everyone on the network so we can all share files and what do you know... we cant. Only the 3 computers directly plugged into the linksys can share, and then everything on the wireless (plugged and wireless) is on almost a completely seperate network. Any ideas?

What IP address is the Linksys? (192.168.1.1) is the default. You do not want to use the wan port of the DELL router and you want to give the dell router an IP address in the same range as the Linksys that will not conflict with the dhcp range. I used to have a similar setup, and I gave my wireless router a lan IP address of 192.168.1.10, and basically just used it for a wireless access point and 4 port switch. The PC's as you probably know need to have the same workgroup name, and unique PC names, and you have to enable sharing on whatever folders you want others to have access to.. Are you using DHCP, and if so make sure to turn dhcp off on the Dell and let the Linksys be the DHCP server.. I've since bought a better wireless router for downstairs and a 4 port switch for up here, and it does work better than the 2 router config. Internet seemed to lag a bit with the 2 router config..

Use the Dell router, and trade off the Linksys router for a switch.

Use the Dell router, sell the Linksys router, and buy a switch.
