connecting 98 to XP
I recently bought a NetGear wireless router and have successfully set it up and have got my two of my computers connected on it with file sharing enabled. They are both XP, one is hard wired and the other wireless. I've also connected up a 98 system, via wire, and it now has internet access, but cannot see the other computers. I want to network using TCP/IP because of LAN gaming compatibility issues. I don't know why I can't get the 98 system to see the XP systems. I can ping from the 98 system, but I cannot ping it from one of the XP systems. I've tried using Netbeui and ISP/SPX but then none of my games will work via LAN, Call of Duty 1, Commad and Conquer Generals, etc. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Run the network wizard on the xp machine and then use the disk on the win98 machine to allow them to see each other.

I have all of my firewalls turned off and it still can't see the network. I've also tried running the XP home networking setup on all computers again and it didn't do anything. The 98 system can see itself on a rare occasion, but it never can see any of my other computers. The protocols that I have installed on all my systems is: Client for Microsoft Networks, TCP/IP, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, QoS packet scheduler on the XP systems, and linksys LNE 100TX(v5) network adapter on the 98 system.

You may have a defective network adapter.

If I install Netbeui I can see the other computers, but I want to use TCP/IP because of gaming conflicts. The internet works on it currently, just not the network. So, I don't think it's defective.

I forget the name of it but it fixes you win something ports. Anyone know the name of it I think it's something like winsockxpfix or something or other. Try running it if someone can remember the name

If it sees the Internet, the winsock is fine.
