Ihave just purchased an old HP networking and i also purchased enhanced cat 5 to with it the guy selling it to me wasnt sure if they would work together can anyone help me please me
also could it be posible to setup a network without a server i been told you can but all my friends say that you cant. Also can a network be setyp between an xp home, 98se pc, 98se laptop.

You'll have to be a little more specific by what you mean that you purchased an old HP networking....
ie. An old HP networking what??? Yes you can set up a network without a server, it's called Peer-To-Peer networking, and yes you can network w98, and Xp togother...

Does it have built in switch ports also?? Are you trying to setup broadband sharing?? If so what type is your internet connection, and what is tha name and or model of the HP router??

it has 7 switch ports its model is the HP ProCurve-T Hub8

First off, use the EDIT button at the bottom of your posts to make changes or add to a previous post instead of making several new posts.
If your network is only for file sharing, then that device will probably work. However, if you want to share an internet connection like DSL or Broadband, you'll need a router instead. And yes, you can network computers using different operating systems such as you describe.

That is an old half duplex 10 megabit hub - filesharing is going to be VERY slow with it.
