Hi GLC
You had me scared there for a minute, I thought you was going to say you wanted to buy that little streamlined beauty. ha ha ha What and eliminate the router, just go through the Speedstream.? What is this going to do just eliminate one source of the possible problem.? Process of elimination. Thanks..............Gunny |

No, replace the Westell with the Speedstream. Is the Speedstream multimode or just a bridge modem?

If you have to use a connection manager to use it connected direct to the computer, it's a bridge modem.

Hi Gang
I received the 2 wire today. Its the router/modem combo. Now when the Windows connection manager pops up what should I do with that. Should I use the Windows connection stuff.? I tried skipping that and just trying to log in but I cant do that. I cant put the 192.168.0,1 to get inside the 2wire. Any suggestions.? I tried rebooting both the 2wire and the computer several times, still no work. Take care.............Gunny |

You need to get RID of the connection manager. It should work exactly like it did with your Linksys, except for the different IP address to access the 2Wire configuration. Straight TCP/IP.

Hi GLC
Excuse my ignorance here but this is where I am a little foggy on this. Are you saying I should use the disk sent with the 2wire to get it going then go back in and take all the connection crap out, after I establish a connection to the 2wire. I tried to do this yesterday, I took all the modem and router I had out, and connected the 2wire up, and all that came up was the windows connection wizard trying to install, a connection to the 2wire. My browser would not accept any thing because I did not have a connection. And I believe you said stay away from the USB connection to the 2wire. It gives me the addresses for the 2wire, http://192.168.0.1 and http://gateway.2wire.net/setup. and a home portal key code. Take care...........Gunny |

Hi GLC
Well I figured out how to get it set up, it is working now. Has picked up my speed a little, but as far as the drops, time will tell. One thing I have not been able to get to it to change any settings yet, like the PPPOE, TCP/IP. Any pointers here.? Take care.............Gunny |

Leave that stuff alone if it's working. To get your wireless client working, it uses 64 bit WEP encryption, the default key is the 10 digit number on the barcode sticker on the 2Wire.

Hi GLC
Ok I did that and every thing seems to be working all right, the wife is connected too. Like I said it seems a little faster, and have not been dropped once so far. Time will tell. I was just not clear on the PPPOE and the TCP/IP setting you mentioned. I did not see any TCP/IP in there any way. I did not change anything so far. It looks like what you said, if it is working don't try to fix it. Thanks.............Gunny |
