Do I need a new router?

I've got a linksys wrt54g v. 2.0 When I reset it it seems to work fine. I use it both for my desktop and wireless on the laptop with DSL. After a couple of days use the router stops working to its potential. I don't really understand it but it sometimes lets the internet through slow or not at all and then it will work ok for a while. I'm almost sure its the router cause when I plug in directly from the modem everything is peachy. I've had it for 3 years so I don't mind buying a new on IF i need to. Let me know what everyone thinks.

If I do need to buy new what brand is good. (I only run the two comps. on it)

thanks

Before you condemn it completely, check your Firmware version by logging into the router and upgrade it to the latest if it isn't already running the latest Firmware.

1. Check the firmware of the WRT54G.
2. Check if your firewall is giving problems.
3. Switch off your internet connection and restart that router.
