New wireless network
I'm moving into a house share soon and will be taking my computer with me. One of the people who is already there has a computer with broadband. I am looking to set up a wireless network so that we can both use the internet. What will I need? and do you have any recommendations?

And we connect the modem to the router? Do you have any recommendations for a good wireless router?

connection is as follows:
modem --> router --> PC (either wired or wireless) Linksys, D-Link, Netgear all make good stuff...search wireless router in this section and you will get a lot of input or go to the "Hardware User Reviews" sub-section and I am sure someone has reviewed at least 1 wireless router (in fact a quick check shows 2 on the 1st page) edit: ooops, just noticed you are in the UK. is your modem an ethernet connection or a USB connection? If USB, you would be best off if you switched to an ethernet modem prior to introducing a router. |

If the modem is USB-only, the best thing to do in the UK is buy a combo modem/wireless router.

As per suggestions already stated if you shop around you should be able to buy a decent wireless ADSL router, this allows you to dispense with the broadband modem and connect line directly to router. Some months back I went for the DLink604 complete with USB wireless adapter for £50 but there coming down in price all the time. its by no means top of the range but it allows me to share out my 2Mb broadband connection to the rest of the family PC's and so far it hasn't let me down. (touchwood)!!
