I just got a wireless card for internet access for a desktop computer that runs windows ME. I read the instruction booklet and followed all of it. I am getting the properties of my router, it shows the signal strength and the network name and it seemed to be all working fine...
But when I click firefox, it says there is no internet connection... I'm thinking the problem has to be with the IP addresses or something... Whats the command that allows me to refresh my IPs for Win ME? I tried reinstalling the software that came with the card and that did nothing. Could there be any other problems? Thanks alot PS: I know you guys get alot of these types of questions, but I couldn't find any with my sort of problem...a quick response would be really appreciated |

The router is an Apple Airport Extreme (don't ask... its not mine) and I'm using a trendNET 108 Mbps card (the router is only 54 Mbps). The system i am typing on right is hardwired.

ok, thanks, but I am not familar with that equipment at all, but I do know that the wired computer must be used to set the settings for the router for the wireless part to be set up. so you might go into the settings for the router and double check them for the desktop computer.

Everything is already setup... we have had this wireless router for years... my brother just moved in, bringing his computer with him and we want it in a different room, on the network... the router is already set up.
I noticed that when I put the password in to connect to the router, it won't let me put in a 13 digit... it will only let me put in 10. Im using WEP for encryption of the router... Last edited by Two|Bit; 04-14-2006 at 12:39 PM. |

Sweet, I'm a genius.... I got it to work by changing my encryption to WPA... I guess that card couldn't handle WEP. Just a question about WPA, does it make the signal weaker? A laptop downstairs is getting a weaker signal. Thanks

no, as far as I know it does not make anything weaker.
