Question D-link 604+ and Linksys WRT54GS

Hello,
I currently have the D-Link 604+ wireless modem hooked up to my network. What i want to do is hook up my linksys WRT54GS router to the system. See the D-Link has very slow wireless connection (11Mbps) where as the Linksys has faster connection (54Mbps). So I connected my linksys router to my D-Link router and ran the startup disk for the linksys (D-link has been running for months already) well it goes through the instruction pages and then when it's all done it asks for my password (which is already there for me...default i guess) so I hit enter and then it thinks for a minute but goes right back to asking me for my password again...it does this everytime! I'm wondering if i have to change some settings on my D-Link or what. I did disable the wireless portion of it so they would not conflict. Anyways if you have any suggestions that would be great.

Cheers.

it is best not to run 2 routers on the same network (as you are finding out, it can cause all sorts of issues).

you can either replace the D-Link with the Linksys (recommended)
or
Make sure that the linksys is connected to the D-link via a switch port of both routers - DO NOT use the WAN link on the Linksys to connect to the D-Link, you will be NATing a NAT and that causes issues.

hi,
Thanks for the help...although I figured out my problem. Bascially I hooked up the linksys to the Dlink, and then ran all my computers through the linksys. Before i had the same thing except all my computer were on the dlink so i couldn't log into my linksys router. Anyways problem is solved and my wireless is up and running great, way faster then before.
Thanks again.

fox3, I think maybe you might have your Mbps and the mbps confused, eather router the speed will still be 11Mbps, the network will only run as fast as the slowest device connected to it.

and you cannot connect a router to another router very easly if at all.
the moden must be connected to the wan port of the router, one router, then it will do what you want, hooking another another router to the system, you will not have a modem to connect to the wan port of the second modem.

if I unserstand what your saying correctly.

bummer, I was not fast enough.

lol...not a problem. I may have kinda confused the whole thing so forgive me if i repeat some things. So i have the Dlink which i called a router (my terminalogy is bad) but it is indeed my modem as well as the router and my wireless. i guess it's an all in wonder type thing. Anyways i disabled the wireless portion of my d-link and unhooked all computers from it. I then plugged the linksys router into one of the Dlink ports. Then i plugged all my computers into the linksys router. Now all my computers work and my wireless is connected through my linksys router so i get 54mbps with my wireless now. The problem before was that i only got 11mbps through my Dlink (because that was all it was rated for) but with that now disabled i can connect to my linksys which is capable of 54mbps. Sorry for the confusion I'm sometimes bad with my teminology and it screws everything up.

Thanks a bunch, you guys always help me so much!
