Problems staying connected to router

Hi there,

I have been having some problems with my internet, basically since it's been set up here (couple of months).

After a while, i seem to lose my full connection so that if i want to visit a website it won't load but i can continue to use whatever i have open (such as being able to post on a forum i'm in already but not being able to visit pcmech.com). Also, torrents still work and i can still use msn messenger.

The only way it seems to fix it is to turn the wireless router off and on. This doesn't seem to effect my housemate who also picks up his internet via the wireless router.

Any ideas anyone?

I am using a D-Link DSL904 router and a Linksys WMP54G wireless card with XP as my OS.

Cheers,

Mike

there are several possibilities.

First: you may have some interference to your signal. This interference can take the form of passive (something physically blocking the signal) or active (something is radiating an interfering signal). In the former, I would fiddle with the location of the device(s) and the orientation of the antennae. This may resolve your issue. if it is active interference, then I would look to microwave ovens and cordless phones. Both of these generate signals in the 2.4gHz range and can cause some connectivity issues. You can resolve these by changing the cordless phones to the 900mHz or 5.8gHz type. the microwave oven thing may require a relocation of the devices.

Second, I would then look at the firmware and driver situation. make sure that your firmware or your router is current (check with D-Link to ensure the most up to date on the router and Linksys for the wireless card).

check these and report back if you please.

Have you removed any spyware lately and if so this might help to explain the problem that you are having and possibly how to fix it. http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/08/...ols/page6.html
