Networking without internet
Hi -
I have a small home network and have a problem on one of my computers with a some kind of browser hacker. I keep doing checks on my computer for adware, etc. It keeps returning. Since I have had this computer for a few years, I would like to keep it just for storage for now. Here is my question - Can I keep this computer connected to the network without it having internet access? If so, how? Thanks for your help! Donna |

i am not a big fan of keeping an infected PC on a LAN, it opens up far too many security holes.
what I would do is wipe the hard drive, reinstall the O/S and while you are at it partition the drive up for more organized (and more efficient) storage. This will give you a clean install with no junk cluttering up the registry, no additional uneeded commands or redirects. that should take care of all the lurking nasties. |

If you want to keep it on the lan but with no Internet access, assign it a static IP in your router's subnet but out of its DHCP scope, and leave the default gateway and DNS addresses blank.
